Geographical situation
Ngaoubela is located in the North West of Tibati (Djerem Division, and in the South West Ngaoundere) It is 230km from Ngaoundere and 10km from Tibati.
History
The Ngaoubela Protestant Hospital is one of the 1st Health Facility of OSEELC. It was officially opened in November 1994, but it should mentioned that, in 1947 health care activities started in Ngaoubela with the Norwegian Missionary. Ngaoubela, in Mboum language means: the mountain of happiness. So, the village has then this name.
The hills of happiness because for them, patients, at that time receives spiritual and body healings Leprosy was one of the health burdens in that Region. But the population did not want it to live together with the Lepers; that’s why they obliged the Missionary to build a place for a leprousy hospital outside the town. The chosen place was then the mountain which is located outside the town, between two rivers: (nyalan and meng).
It this site then, that lepers would call Hill of Happiness. Because they found happiness and joy living there. In 1957, the leper Hospital was created and also the Meng Orphanages.
Evoluation
A Dispensary was also added to the leper Hospital, and it has attracted many people around the Hospital. In 1965, they created a maternity. Pastors encouraged women to deliver in that maternity. Orphans were sent to the orphanage.
In 1974 then, the Ngaoubela Dispensary become: Ngaoubela Hospital by the Health Ministry Law N0 81/A/MSAP/DSP/SDPS/BFSP/ of 11th October 1974.
