Introduction

CSIP de Gadjiwan

The PIHC of Gadjiwan is located in the Pere plains and is part of the health region of the North.

Geographical situation

The PIHC of Gadjiwan is at 7km away from the subdivision of the Mayo-Baléo, where is implanted a Goverment hospital, at 70km from Tignère where we can find the district hospital of the “Faro et Deo” division and at 210km from the headquarters of OSEELC. You should also note that the PIHC of Gadjiwan is located not far from the neighboring country, Nigeria.

The PIHC of Gadjiwan is localized at the missionary campus (Norwegian) and separated from the village by a small river. The health area of Gadjiwan population goes up to 3 413 inhabitants shared out in 4 big and 7 small villages.

The population within the radius of 5km is of about 2000 inhabitants and within more than 5km we count about 1 413 inhabitants.

History

The PIHC of Gadjiwan was created in 1955 by a Norwegian missionary called Gunnar Ganstron. The center was built of ground bricks and a roof of straws.

The PIHC of Gadjiwan received the opening authorization in 1957 and from that year until 1966, only a few sick people were coming in for treatment. In 1968, the center’s attendance rose. This situation pushed the Norwegian missionaries to raise funds for the construction of a good building. The most treated patients were lepers.

From 1979 to 1988, the centers attendance strongly rose once more. Lepers were not the only treated patients. Due to this situation, a second aid came for the construction of a delivery room and 2 big buildings that counted 7 rooms with 18 beds.

Today this center has in total:

  • 02 buildings for inpatient services
  • 01 building used for care rooms and delivery room 02 other buildings for the staff team and their kitchen.

Personnel situation

The PIHC of Gadjiwan employs three people.

  • 01 Aid Nurse (Chief of the center);
  • 01 Health auxiliary ;
  • 01 Cleaner.
